Transit directions at global scale

چکیده

In this article I present a novel approach to integrated ground and air public transport journey planning, operating at continent scale. Flexible date search, prerequisite for long distance trips given their typical low and irregular service frequencies, is core functionality. The algorithm, best described as timed branch-and-bound (BBtime), is especially suited for irregular and poorly structured networks. Almost all of the described functionality is implemented in a working prototype. Using ground transport only, the system is on par with Google Transit on random country-wide trips in the US.

On Outbound Strategies and the Pareto Efficiency of Multipath Interdomain Routing

Transit providers play a key roll in the formation and evolution of the Internet ecosystem. In this paper, we incorporate economical considerations into the study of the dynamics of the transit networks, under the premise of multipath interdomain routing. We model the dynamics as a result of individual profit optimization under capacity constraints, and prove the optimal outbound strategies for...

Large-Scale Transit Network Optimization

This article proposes a methodology for developing optimal transit networks (route structures and headways) that minimizes transit transfers and total user cost while maximizing service coverage, given information on transit demand, transit fleet size, and the street network of the transit service area. The research provides an effective mathematical computational tool with minimal reliance on ...

Heuristic Algorithm for Priority Traffic Signal Control

consider the multiple requests for priority in a way that is not disruptive, or inefficient, to other traffic. Other factors, such as occupancy and schedule adherence, are important considerations that can be used to manage which priority requests should be served, but it is still likely that multiple transit vehicles will desire priority service. The approach presented in this paper is an inte...

Towards a New Internet Routing Architecture: Arguments for Separating Edges from Transit Core

In recent years, the size and dynamics of the global routing table have increased rapidly along with an increase in the number of edge networks. The relation between edge network quantity and routing table size/dynamics reveals a major limitation in the current architecture; there is a conflict between provider-based address aggregation and edge networks’ need for multihoming. Two basic directi...

Effects of Trip Purpose on Transit Fare Elasticiy, Case Study of Isfahan

This paper explores the effects of trip purpose on price elasticity of bus mode. Data for the research was collected through passenger field survey in Isfahan, Iran. Due to the nature of the data, nonlinear regression and nonparametric statistics tools were used for analysis. It was found that the logarithmic function best explains the relationship between percentage of change in demand and per...
